Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first vice president to be female and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Her career began with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for health care, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. National attention was gained for her outspoken questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
